The 2002 Benchstars is an equal blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. These two varietals come together to show the best of the world of blending. The Cabernet Franc is the bright red flavored variety of the Bordeaux and Merlot the more rounded mellow component. This wine aged well and showed a bit of its French heritage with the dried plum fruit flavors and the barrel spice of a well-aged Cabernet Franc. The mouth feel and complexity compare to a Bordeaux style that is California born.
